Since the help pages are just layouts, they wont show then (that is the reason for the dummy entry inBa the delivered package). Just add a new empty record and you will be able to read the help again.

Relation "Cataloginventory"
The relations are modelled to guarantee as much data consistency as possible. In a relational data model they would satisfy the third normal form (unfortunately FileMaker is far from being a relational DBMS).(*B
Actually, the relation "Catalogvalues" does not even satisfy the second normal form, since the attribut Date of Issue depends only on a part of the key. But since I don't think that this attribute is very imporB
tant, I did not want to create yet another relation just for this attribute. If you have problems with that, please contact me and I will see whether they justify the effort.
It will be free to people who maintain a catalog of a whole area (e.g., country, motive) and
send regular updates to the author. Please see Maintaining a catalog for more information.

E9Contains the name of the issuing country (or the motive).
Certain stamps of a country may be cataloged differently. For example US Air Mail in a Scott catalog. Enter your abbrevation. It is recommended to leave the field blank for the normal cataloged stamps.
EFThis field contains the number of your favorite catalog (or your own).
This is the date of issue of that particular stamp in the format yyyy-mmm-dd (you may have to enter it differently, e.g., dd.mm.yy).
These fields contain information which may further differenciate a special stamp. For example a coil stamp on phosphorated paper gets a C in the field Perf and a y in Paper. If the stamp is identified by its nuB2mber and category, these fields can be left blank.
This field offers a popup menu which contains the way of how you collect the stamp (i.e., FDC, single, Block of 4). You can add your own values to the list (see your FileMaker Manual).
EzThe popup menu of this fields lets you enter the condition of your stamp. Per default the following options are available:
cancelled to order
E.mint with 100% intact gum (no signs of hinges)
mint with signs of hinges
mint without gum
E/The value of the stamp as given in the catalog.
Catalog
The concatenation of the fields Country, Category, Cat#, Color, Paper, Perf, Wm, Type, Kind and used vs mint forms an invisible field which acts as the key of the relation.
Please note: FileMaker Pro V1.0 hasB
a maximal limit of characters for index entries which are used for doing the look
up. Therefore only parts (beginning or
ending characters etc.) are catenated to form this key (see the definition of the field
InventKey). In case you get a wrong look-up it could be that an ambivalent key was created. E.g., keep the first four characters of the Country field and the first two characters of the Category field unique foD6r different countries and categories in the same file.

Most catalog suppliers do have a copyright on their catalog numbering system. They normally allow usage for private or trading purposes, but I doubt that this ShareWare package would fall under this topic if itB5 would be distributed with catalog numbering schemes.
The other problem is that there are different standard catalogs for the same country depending on the collector's preferences (e.g., Michel vs. Scott for USA) and of course the language to be used for descriptions.
Because of these reasons I am not including any full catalog and hope that we might come up with either our own catalog for a certain country or get the agreement of the catalog publishers.
However, I don't think it is forbidden, if you type in all the catalog information yourself for your own and solely private use.
In case that you maintain a catalog which can be made available to the public, please contact the author who will help you to distribute the catalog to all interested users of the package.
The ISD catalogs
1993 some people joined there efforts to create an ISD (Internet Stamp Database) standard which gives an Internet wide stamp database standard. This package supports the creation, maintenance and usage of suchC
catalogs.
If you would like to receive more information about the ISD project and about available catalogs please contact the author.

Michael's Stamp Collection package contains 6 FileMaker files each containing one or two sets of attributes (called a relation). These relations can be used to maintain an electronic inventory of your stamp coBQllection, a want or trade list, a trade inventory or even a full stamp catalog.
